where are chromosones found?
chromosones are organised in the nucleus.
what is DNA?
DNA is the molecule which contains the genetic code.
explain the shape of DNA.
it is a double stranded helix shape with the bases on the inside and the sugar phosphate backbone on the outside.
what are the 4 bases?
guanine and cytosine (complimentary pair)
adenine and thymine (complimentary pair)
what is a gene?
a gene is a section of DNA which codes for a protein.
why is the base sequence important?
the base sequence determines the order of amino acids in the protein.
what is mRNA and its function?
mRNA is single stranded and found in the nucleus. It carries a complimentary copy of the DNA code to a ribosome.
what happens at the ribosome?
at the ribosome, the mRNA code is read in groups of 3. each triplet codes for one amino acid.
where is DNA found?
DNA is found in the nucleus.
what are the subunits of a protein and the type of bond that holds them together.
subunits: amino acids
type of bond: peptide
