Cell Flashcards
(28 cards)
To distinguish between a compound microscope and an electron microscope
A compound microscope uses light and lenses to magnify objects while the electron microscope uses beams of electrons and magnetic lenses to achieve a higher magnification
To labela microscope and state there functions
coarse focuse Knob: for rough focus
Fine focus knob: for precise focus
Clip: holds the slid in place
Stage:holds the stage in place
Condenser:focus es light on the object
Eyepiece: magnifies the image
Nose piece: allows to move the different objective into places
Objective lense: magnifies the image
Diaphragm: controls the amount of light entering the slide
To draw and label the ultrastructure of a plant cell
anki
To draw and label the ultrastructure of an animal cell
anki
To identify the function of cell wall
to support and strengthen the cell
To identify the function of cell membrane
Retain cell content
Provide support for the cell
Controls the substances that enter and leave the cell
To draw and label the structure of a cell membrane
anki
To identify the function of vacuole
Contains cell sap, a fluid made up of sugar and salts
To identify the function ofa nucleus
It is the control centre for the cell
Contains DNA
Contains a double membrane which has nuclear pores, making it selectivley permeable
To identify the function of cell wall
Hold the structure of the plant
To identify the function of a nucleolus
Ribosomes are made in the nucleolus
The area in the nucleus that stains darkly
To identify the function of mitochondria
Supplies energy to the cell
The site of resperation
Contains a double membrane that is selectively permeable
Name a tissue that contains many mitochondria
The heart and liver tissues in humans
The meristem in plants
Name a tissue that contains very few mitochondria
Fat tissues in humans
Ground tissues in plants
To identify function of chloroplast
Where are photosynthesis takes place
To identify function of ribosomes
To make protein
Apart from nucleus state two other cell components that contain DNA
Mitochondria
Chloroplast
List three differences between plant and animal cells
Plant as a cell wall, animal cell does not have a cell wall
Plant cell contains chloroplast animal cell does not contain chloroplast
Plant cell has large vacules, and animal cell has no vacules
Define the term eukaryotic cell and name an example
They have a nuclear spend membrane enclosed organelles
Animals fungi plants
Define the term prokaryotic cell and name an example
They have no Membrane enclosed organelles
Bacteria
To explain how to work a light (compound) microscope
Play slide on stage And clip it into place
Switch on the light source
Use corous focus not to bring the low power objeactive lense into focus
Now plant the high power objective lens into place , using define focus knob to focus at correctly.
To name a plant cell you viewed under microscope
Onion cell
Name chemical used to stain plant cell and explain how you applied
Iodine
State why you used coverslip
To protect the specimen and the microscope
