Cell Cycle and Cell Death Processes Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is the definition of a cell cycle?
The sequence of cellular events occurring from the moment a cell is formed to its reproduction.
What is the definition of differentiation?
The process by which a cell specializes to take on specific structure and function.
What is the definition of a cell cycle checkpoint?
The times in the cell cycle where a cell must verify if it’s appropriate to move to the next phase or not.
After G1/G0 phase and G2 phase.
In which phase does the cell only grow?
G1 phase
In which phase does the cell perform its function for the body and differentiation?
G0 phase
In which phase does the cell replicate its DNA?
S phase
In which phase does the cell grow AND prepare for cell division?
G2 phase
In which phase does the cell divide by mitosis or meiosis?
M phase
What is Necrosis?
An uncontrolled cell death due to unsurmountable harmful external stimuli (spillage of cytoplasm)
Generally bad.
