cell organelles found in plant & animal cells (functions) Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Encases the cell, but allows it to move.
It also controls how substances pass through the cell.
It’s semi permable (so it allows some substances to go through the cell, but others to not).
What is the function of the nucleus?
It’s the ‘brain’ of the cell and controls all the actions the cell does.
It also holds the DNA, helps with reproduction and growth.
What is the function of the nucleolus?
It produces ribosomes inside the nucleus.
What is the function of the ribosomes?
It’s the smallest membrane of the cell that’s responsible for producing protein.
What is the function of the golgi apparatus?
It sorts the proteins and fats before they are moved to their different locations of the cell.
What is the function of the endoplasmic reticulum?
It’s a membrane folded to create canals to transport materials, like proteins.
The endoplasmic reticulum can either be rough or smooth (rough meaning there are ribosomes on it, smooth being there are no ribosomes on it)
What is the function of the vacuole?
It’s a ballon like space that stores materials the cell can’t imediately use.
It also helps keep the shape of the cell.
What is the function of the mitochondria?
It breaks down food to create energy by converting glucose into ATP.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
Collects and distributes materials like oxygen and food around the cell.
