The use of a MICROSCOPE and its components Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is the function of the stage?
Flat space where the slide is placed.
What is the function of stage clips?
Clips that attach the slide to the stage.
What is the function of the ocular lens / eye piece?
The lense at the top of the microscope that you look through. The magnification of the ocular lense is one of the factors that determines the total magnification.
What is the function of the coarse adjustment knob?
One of the knobs that raises or lowers the stage to change the distance you are looking at the speciman. This knob moves the stage faster than the fine adjustment knob.
What is the function of fine adjustment knob?
One of the knobs that changes the distance you are looking at the specimen. This one slowly sharpens the magnification and is meant for precision.
What is the function of the revolving nose piece?
It holds the objective lenses in place and can be rotated to switch which of the objectives is being used.
What is the function of the objective lenses?
3-4 lenses that magnifies the specimen at either LOW power (4x), MEDIUM power (10x), and HIGH power (40x).
What is the function of the base?
Platform that supports the entire microscope.
What is the function of the arm?
Supports the Body Tube and teh Objective Lenses.
Also, you carry the microscope by holding onto the arm.
What is the function of the lamp / light?
It provides light to allow you to see the specimen on the slide.
What is the function of the diaphragm?
It allows light to go through the specimen and adjusts the amount of light which hits the specimen on the slide.
What is the function of the body tube?
It connects the ocular lenses to the revolving nose piece and seperates the ocular lense from the objective lenses.
What is the function of the microscope in general?
It allows for humans to view extremely small things as if they were far larger. This allows us to see the details in said object.
