Cells Flashcards
(32 cards)
What does the mitchondria do
Where respiration takes place
What does the cell membrane do
Control what leaves and enters the cell
What dose the cytoplasm do
Chemical reactions take place
What does the nucleus do
Controls cells activities
What does the cell wall do
Stops the cell from bursting
What does the vacuole do
Cell sap
What does the chloroplast do
Contains chlorophyll to trap sunlight
What does the mitochondria do
Respiration
What’s the eye piece leanse
The lens that the image is viewed through
What’s the objective lens
The lens closest to the specimen
What’s the stage
Where the slide is places
What’s the light source
Provides light so the specimen can be viewed
What’s the focusing knob
Moved the stage up and down
What’s the cheek cell swab practical
- Swab ur cheek with a cotton swab
- Rub cells onto microscope slide
- Add methylene blue into the middle
- Cover with cover slip
What’s the onion cell practical
- Peel a thin layer of onion cells
- Place on microscope slide
- Add iodine to the middle
- Cover with cover slip
Why is it important that the Onion tissue is thin
So light can pass thru the cells
Why’s it important to use a dye or a stain
So you can see the cell as some of it is colourless
Why’s it important to use low power to look at the cells first
To find the cells
What do red blood cells do
Carry oxygen around the body
What do white blood cells do
Fight infections
What do root hair Cells do
Increase surface area to absorb nutrients
What are tissues
Groups of cells with similar structures and functions e.b muscle tissue
What’s the functions of the digestive system
Break down of large food molecules into simple soluable molecules that can be absorbed into the blood
What’s the main organs of the digestive system
Stomach
Large intestine
Small intestine (ileum)
