Cells Flashcards
Memorise cells names, what they do and where they are located. (9 cards)
Golgi Complex
Shipping department:
Job- modifies protein and exports them
Location- near rough endoplasmic reticulum
What type of microscope- electron microscope
Cell Membrane
Job- controls any movement of substances in and out of the cell
Location- boundary layer surrounding the cell
What type of microscope- light microscope
Nucleus
Big boss:
Job- stores the cell’s hereditary material, or DNA, and coordinates the cell’s activities
Location- central region of the cell
What type of microscope- light microscope
Centriole
Animal cell:
Job- helps in the formation of the spindle fibres that separate the chromosomes during mitosis
Cytoskeleton
Job- assist in moving materials in and out of the cell
Location- gives a cell its shape through intercellular proteins
What microscope- electron microscope
Lysosomes
Recycling and security:
Job- destruct proteins
Location- in the cytoplasm
What microscope- light microscope
Mitochondria
Power supply:
Job- mini powerhouse where the cells get their energy
Location- in the network of membranous tubules
What type of microscope- electron microscope
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Primary production line (makes toys):
Job- protein production; in particular for export out of the cell
Location- found throughout the cell but the density is higher near the nucleus and the Golgi apparatus
What type of microscope- electron microscope
Cytoplasm
Factory floor:
Job- holds organelles in place
Location- within the cell membrane
What microscope- light microscope
