cells and stuff Flashcards
(14 cards)
What do plant cells have that animal cells dont
- Chloroplasts
- Vacuole
- Cell wall
Differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms
Prokaryotic have no nucleus
Prokaryotic have plasmids
Prokaryotic have no chloroplasts
Prokaryotic have no mitochondria
Eukaryotic have chromosones
Prokaryotic organism defintion
A single celled organism with no nucleus
Eukaryotic organism definition
Multicellular organism with a nucleus
Are fungi prokaryotic or eukaryotic
Eukaryotic
An example of fungal disease and how to prevent it
Rose black spots, purple black spots that cause leaves to drop off
Prevention: fungicide, destory infected leaves
Disease caused by a protoctist
Malaria
Plasmodium
What are protocists
Simple eukaryotic organisms that are neither plants nor animals or fungi (basically parasites)
Define catalyst
A substance that speeds up chemical reactions
By lowering activation energy
Define metabolic
Chemical reactions processed in cells of an organism
Piece of apparatus suitable for measuring volume of gas produced
Gas syringe
Inverted measuring cylinder
What do lymphocytes do
They produce antibodies that are specific for the antigens on pathogens
They attach and clump onto pathogens, destroying them
They also produce memory cells that provide immunity
What do phagocytes do
They kill bacteria by destroying it with enzymes
The products are absorbed by phagocytes
