THE HEART ❤️ Flashcards
(16 cards)
acyronym for oxygen levels of blood in the heart
Left Oxygenated
Right Deoxygenated
(LORD)
what are coranary arteries
they supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart in order for it to contract
what do arteries do
carry blood away from the heart (a for away)
what do veins do
carry blood to the heart (in for back in the heart)
what do capillaries do
distribute oxygen and nutrients from blood to organs and tissue
adaptations of aterties
they are thick (due to high pressure from pumping)
they are muscular
they are elastic
narrow lumen to maintain pressure
what is a lumen
space that carries blood in vein artery or capillary
adaptations of veins
they are less thick, muscular and elastic because of lower pressure
they have valves to prevent backflow
big lumen
adaptations of capilliaries
single cell wall thick
permeable to allow for easier diffusion
a lot of SA for diffusion
pressure of blood lower, so blood moves slower, more time for diffusion
what does pulmonary mean
goes to the heart
what does blood consist of
RBC, WBC, platelets, plasma
adaptations of RBC
no nucelus (more space for haemoglobin and oxygen)
biconcave disk (large SA for absorption)
what do platelets do
clot wounds to stop bleeding
what does plasma do
makes the blood liquid, carries stuff such as:
RBC
WBC
platelets
nutrients (glucose and amino acids)
waste (co2 and urea)
hormones
proteins
what does artificial blood do
provide volume so the heart to keep vessels full and so heart can pump stuff
no RBCs
journey of the blood (idk how to word it)
vena cava -> R atrium -> R ventricle -> pulmonary artery -> lungs -> pulmonary vein -> L ventricle -> L atrium -> aorta -> rest of the bod
