CGM + FGM Flashcards
(35 cards)
Difference bw CGM vs FGB
CGM (real-time): provides info directly to user (don’t need to pull data— pushed to them /don’t need to scan sensor); displays moment-to moment info + trends + alarm if low
FGB: must pull info via scanning sensor to get data (sensor captures but doesn’t display readings right away); need to pull
Benefits of CGM
allows for detection to trends + allows HCP to see what’s always going on (ex// at night)
increased glucose testing
improved A1c
less variability in glycemic levels
less time in hypos
increase pt engagement + self management
Dexcom - CGM or FBGM
CGM — pushes data to you
- sends info direclty to smart device every 5 mins (allows for RT management)
How often do you need to replace Dexcom
every 10 days
How long does it take for dexcom to “warm up” when new sensor
30 mins
Can dexcoms be used in pregnancy
yes
— also approved for all pts 2+
— really good option for T1DM
T or F: dexcom can only be worn on upper back of arm
F- can do onto several areas
What’s more expensive: dexcom or freestyle libre
Dexcom
Difference bw freestyle libre 1 + 2
1: has no alarms
2: has alarm feature that will alert if out of range + encourage scanning of sensor
How often does the freestyle libre need to be replaced
every 14 days
Where can the freestyle be worn
only on arm
How does the freestyle libre work
measures glucose in interstitial fluid; measures it every min but then averages every 15 mins (aggregates data)
— when scanned: automatically transmits date from last minute (even if not stored yet)
How long does it take for libre to warm up
1 hr
Which sensor will the government cover
Freestyle ONLY IF ON INSULIN
On avg, how often do people scan their freestyle
12 times daily
T or F: there can be differences in BG + interstitial glucose levels
T- can get different readings; may be more pronounced during times of rapidly changing BG
Impact of Vit C on glucose readings
500mg + dose
- can false raise levels (may miss lows)
Impact of salicylic acid on CGM readings
may causes falsely low readings (depends on dose )
- 81mg dose —- is okay
T or F: once removed, the sensor can’t be reapplied
T
What is libreview
application you can register for—- allows clinic to be connected automatically to sensor data
How often should you scan your sensor (freestyle)
- min scan of every 8 hours (normally 1st thing in am + with meals + at hs)
— 8 hour memory
T or F: during the 1st 12-24hrs of wearing freestyle, the results may be lower than your actual glucose levels
T- longer you wear—- more accurate
T or F: when you scan sensor, you get a graph that represents the last 8 hours of glucose readings
T along with current glucose result, arrow direction (which way you going/help decide what to do)
Freestyle: if Lo appears when scan, what does this mean
glucose < 2.2 (get medical help)
