Ch.3 + 5 Flashcards
(39 cards)
Major tissue types
Epithelial tissue, Connective tissue, Muscular tissue, Nervous tissue
Simple squamous epithelium
single flat layer found in the capillaries, alveoli
Simple Cuboidal Epithelium
single layer cuboidal, found in kidneys and tubules
Simple Columnar epithelium
single layered columnar found in intestines
Pseudostratified columnar
trachea bronchi
Stratified squamous
skin, mouth, vagina, esophagus, tonged
Stratified Cuboidal
sweat glands
Stratified columnar
urethra
Transitional
urinary bladder
Anaplasia
means cells have lost the characteristics that defines them.
Dysplasia
abnormal arrangement of cells
Metaplasia
change of one cell to another
four types of membranes
Mucous, Serous, Cutaneous, Synovial
Synovial Membranes
found in joints, secrets synovial fluid that allows smooth joint movement
Cutaneous Membrane
aka your skin
Serous membrane
Associated with the organ in the body’s cavities. It has two layers, the layer lining the cavity wall is the parietal layer, and the one lining the organ is the visceral layer.
Mucous Membrane
line the digestive system, the respiratory tracts, and a lot of the urinary tract. They consists of a layer of epithelium tissue with connective tissue underneath
Major cell types in connective tissue
Proper, Cartilage, Bone, Blood
Collagen fibers
strongest and most abundant strang of protein
Elastic fibers
longer and thinner forming a framework, stretch
Reticular fibers
shorter collagen fibers sponge like networks that cradle and support organs
Different types of muscle tissue
Skeletal, cardiac, smooth.
Communicating junctions
allow cells to transfer molecules to each other , ex gap junctions
Impermeable junctions
these hold cells in contact with each other, but don’t allow exchanges, think in the urinary bladder. Tight Junctions
