What is a project ?
Is a unique , temporary effort that has a definite beginning and ending with several related / interdependent tasks to create a product/ service that adds business value
They are subject to limitation of time /resources (funding) , should follow a planned/organised approach
Purpose of a project ?
- market demand
- customer request

- legal requirements /regulatory compliance
- replacement of obsolete equipment, tech , system etc
- crisis situation
- social need
A project can be defined as ?
a time bound effort constrained by performance specifications, resources and a budget to create a unique product /service that adds value + meets desired outcomes
What’s a stakeholder ?
People and groups are who can impact the project or might be impacted by either the work or results of the project.
Project management?
Art and science of using knowledge,skills, tools, and techniques to meet stakeholder needs + expectations efficiently and effectively
Includes :
initiating , planning , executing, controlling and closing project
Principle of project management discipline?
make effective + efficient use of all resources -influences some trade-off decisions

What is a process ?
Series of actions designed to bring about consistent and similar result or service , usually designed to improve productivity-(consistent leads to similar results)

Hard skills ?
Include proficiency in planning , risk analysis ,quality assurance , control ,scheduling , budgeting, change control , project execution

Someone with management authority over organisational unit

What is a project life cycle ?
Series of phase that a project goes through from its initiation to its closure
- SELECTING & INITIATING
Starts when an idea for a project first emerges and the project is selected and planned at a high level (ends when key participants (stakeholders) commit (accept) to it
- PLANNING
Starts after initial commitment, includes detailed planning , ends with key stakeholders accept the entire detailed plan.
- EXECUTING
Starts when plan (enough to proceed) is accepted and includes authorisation, executing , monitoring, controlling project work until customer accepts P deliverbles
- CLOSING & REALISATION
All activities after customers acceptance to ensure the project is completed , contracts closed, lessons learnt = documented , resources & reassigned , contributions are recognised and benefits are realised
What is a project manager ?
the person assigned by the performing organisation to lead the team that is responsible for achieving the project objectives
The project manager is directly accountable for the project results, schedule, and budget. This person is the main communicator, is responsible for the planning and execution of the project,
and works on the project from start to finish.
What is a functional manager ?
Resource manager
Functional managers are departmental heads. They determine how the work of the project is to be accomplished, often supervise that work, and often negotiate with the project manager
regarding which workers are assigned to the project
What is a facilitator ?
If the project is complex and/or controversial, it sometimes makes sense to have another person help the project manager with the process of running meetings and making decisions

Logical grouping of the project management processes to achieve specific project objectives

What is a scope ?
Scope is a combination of product scope and project scope
