How were the economies, societies and views on slavery different between the North and South in the 1850’s?
In the North, there was more diverse cultural background than the South. They had an economy based around factories and payed laborers. Most of the people were indifferent to the concept of slavery due to the fact that they weren’t usually directly affected by it. Some worried they would lose their jobs though and were opposed, but overall, freeing the slaves was fine by them. In the South, the economy was based around cotton farms and slave workers. The South wanted to keep slavery i fear that their economy would fall. Many in the South did not own slaves though and were not affected much. The South’s culture was a lot less diverse than the North.
