Parliamentary System
democratic governance of a state in which the executive branch derives its democratic legitimacy from, and is held accountable to, the legislature
Line Item Veto
The power of an executive to veto some provisions in a bill while approving others.
They CANT do this
Executive Agreement
an international agreement, usually regarding routine administrative matters not warranting a formal treaty, made by the executive branch of the US government without ratification by the Senate.
Council of Economic advisors (CEA)
is an agency within the Executive Office of the President that advises the President of the United States on economic policy. The CEA provides much of the objective empirical research for the White House and prepares the annual Economic Report of the President.
Office Of management and budget (OMB)
is the largest office within the Executive Office of the President of the United States (EOP). The main function of OMB is to produce the President’s Budget.
INS V Chadha
Immigration and Naturalization Service v. Chadha, 462 U.S. 919, was a United States Supreme Court case ruling in 1983 that the one-house legislative veto violated the constitutional separation of powers.
11th Amendment
The judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by citizens of another state, or by citizens or subjects of any foreign state.
23rd Amendment
extends the right to vote in the presidential election to citizens residing in the District of Columbia by granting the District electors in the Electoral College, as if it were a state.
Ad Hoc Government
Seceral subordinates, cabinet officers and committees report directly tothe president on different matters. An ad hoc struture allows great dlecibility, minimizes bureaucratic inertia, and generates ideas and information from disparate channgels, but it risks cutting the president off from the government officials who are ultimately responsible for translating presidential decisions into policy proposals and administrative action.
Executive Privilege
The right to keep executive communications confidential, especially if they relate to national security.
Treaty
a formally concluded and ratified agreement between countries.
Inherent Powers
those powers that Congress and the president need in order to get the job done right.
Discretionary Executive Power
“the right to decide something based on one’s own judgment.” If you’re given a task to complete at your discretion, you can decide how you want to do it
Take Care Clause
must “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” [21] This clause in the Constitution imposes a duty on the President to take due care while executing laws

12th Amendment
provides the procedure for electing the President and Vice President.
25th Amendment
allows for the Vice President to become president in the event of death, resignation, removal from office or impairment that prevents the current president from fulfilling his or her duties.
Unified Government
The same party controls the White House and both houses of government.
Executive Orders
a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government and having the force of law.
Veto
a constitutional right to reject a decision or proposal made by a law-making body.
Executive Office of the President
consists of the immediate staff of the current President of the United States and multiple levels of support staff reporting to the President. The EOP is headed by the White House Chief of Staff, currently Denis McDonough.
Necessary & Proper Clause
he Congress shall have Power … To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.
Expressed Powers
Those powers of Congress specifically listed in the Constitution.
US v Nixon
Presidential immunity in regards to communication does not exist under Executive Privilege
