What are the main characteristics of Gamay?

A

Gamay is a black grape variety which produces wines with high acidity, low to medium tannins and red fruit flavours. Rarely oaked.

France:
Beaujolais. Moderate climate directly to the south of Burgundy. Typically light bodied with low to medium tannins and red fruit flavours. There are Cru appellations producing concentrated and structured wines with pronounced red fruit aromas and a medium to long finish. Intended for quick consumption.
