Q

What are the main characteristics of Tempranillo?

A

Wines typically have medium acidity, medium levels of tannins and red fruit flavours and black fruit flavours. T is versatile capable of making wines from simple fruity dry red wines to ripe complex and age worthy. Traditional to mature wine in small new oak barrels, which impart complex secondary flavours as well as softening tannins and adding body. Can develop complex tertiary flavours in the bottle.

Spain:
Catalunya DO produces high volumes of T and T based blends varying from simple fruity light bodied wines to powerful and oak aged. The most famous wines come from Rioja DOCa…..a more moderate climate region. Rioja is most commonly a blend of grape varieties with T dominant in the best wines. Very good and outstanding wines can also be found further inland in the mountainous Ribera del Duero DO…..producing very full bodied wines with fresh black fruit flavours.
