A

Cation (usually metal) named first
Anion (usually nonmetal)

What are the rules of naming the cation in the ionic compound?

A

If the cation has a fixed charge, the name is the neutral name
If the cation has a variable charge (groups 3-12), the neutral name is followed by the roman numeral in parantheses of the charge
