CHAPTER 6 Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is an isomer?
Molecules with same chemical formular and different structures and properties
How to calculate heat capacity?
Total heat used/mass of the sample * temperature change
What is potential energy?
The potential action of a force
It can never be more than what it started with
What is kinetic energy?
The action of a force
It can never be more than what potential energy started with
What are the alkanes in order from 1-12?
Methane, Ethane, Propeane, Butane, Pentane, Hexane, Heptane, Octane, Nonane, Decane, Undecane, Dodecane
What does an endothermic process look like?
Require energy
Reactants will be higher than the products
Negative energy change
Smaller activation energy
What does an exothermic process look like?
Produces energy
Reactants will be lower than the products
Positive energy change
Larger activation energy
How to check if something is an isomer?
If it is just drawn diff, not an isomer
If is has the same chemical formula, not an isomer
