What are 3 difficulties of transportation of goods?
1) Expensive
2) Moved by horses, mules, etc.; not cars, wooden ships could easily be damaged
3) took a long time; large distances
Why were spices so expensive during the middle ages?
Improved the taste of Europeans’ food and spices were used in cosmetics, drugs and perfumes –> people don’t bathe often so they use perfume a lot. Pepper was worth more than its weight in gold.
Why were most cities built on a major river?
Transportation by water was much cheaper and easier for traders
How does geography effect the way we live and the quality of our life?

How did increase trade and contact with other countries effect people’s worldviews?
More than goods were passed along the Silk Road, intercultural contact led to exchanges of ideas and knowledge as well
Why were the prices of goods shipped from India and Africa high?
They were goods you couldn’t get in Europe and were luxury and sought after; high demand and far away
