Define Reconquista:
The Christian reconquest of Spain from the Muslims
Define Islam:
A monotheistic religion originating in the Arabian Peninsula in the 7th century CE. Founded by Mohammed in the city of Mecca, Islam would spread throughout Asia and Europe, from Spain in the west to Pakistan in the East
Define Grenada:
The last Muslim stronghold on the Iberian Peninsula that was conquered in 1492
Define Iberian Peninsula:
A peninsula in SW Europe consisting of mostly Spain and Europe(Portugal, Andorra, and Navarre)
Define Reconquest:
The conquest of a state, country or territory that was previously occupied by the conqueror
Define Propaganda:
Attempts to manipulate people by using exaggerated or disordered information
Where is Spain located?
Spain is located in the west area of Europe on the Iberian Peninsula
What surrounds Spain?
Water on all sides, the Mediterranean sea, the Atlantic Ocean, part of France, Andorra, Navarre on the north side of it
How does the location and what surrounds Spain effect their worldview?
The textbook argues that this location created a sea going people that naturally looked west for expansion.
List three similarities between the Spanish and the Aztecs:
- Believed that their religion was the supreme religion. They were very devoted
- Warlike
- System of hierarchy
List three differences between the Spanish and the Aztecs:
- Spain was monotheistic, the Aztecs were polytheistic
- The Spanish were a conquered people, the Aztecs were a conquering people
- Aztecs had social mobility, the Spanish did not
Why was the book “A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies” by Bartolome de las Casas, so influential?
The other Europeans used it as propaganda against Spain

- God-They wanted to Christianize the world
