Aspirin, clopidogrel (anti platelet)

  • MOA: does not allow platelets to stick together to form a clot
  • Adverse effects: bleeding
  • Indications: reduce the risk of clot formation
  • Contraindications: drug allergy, thrombocytopenia, and active bleeding

Heparin, warfarin, Enoxaparin (anticoagulants)

  • MOA: prevents the formation of a clot or thrombus
  • Adverse effects:
    *Heparin: bleeding, hematoma, anemia, thrombocytopenia (monitor PTT)
    *Coumadin: bleeding, lethargy, muscle pain, purple toes (monitor PT/INR)
  • Indications: MI, AFIB, and angina
  • Contraindications: drug allergy or acute bleeding process
