Liability?
Being legally responsible for the harm one causes another person.
Negligence?
The failure to use ordinary or reasonable care.
Standard of reasonable care?
Assumes that and individual is a person of reasonable and ordinary prudence.
Torts?
Legal wrongs committed against a person.
Nonfeasance?
Act of omission by failing to perform a legal duty.
Malfeasance?
Act of commission by doing something one is not legally able to do.
Misfeasance?
Occurs when an individual improperly does something.

Provides protection for someone who chooses to provide first aid.

A specific length of time to sue for damages from negligence.

A person takes his own chances in a particular undertaking.

Contract between insurance company and policyholder.

Cost of health care are monitored closely by insurance carriers.
Affordable Care Act?
Mandates availability of affordable health care insurance for every American.
Secondary Insurance?
Athlete’s remaining medical bills are paid once primary insurance has made their payment. This is carried by institutions.
Health Maintenance Organizations?
Must get care at preapproved facilities except in an emergency.
Result of increased litigation?
All professionals should be protected by liability insurance.
