Gathers information about the injury from the athlete and a more detailed evaluation.
What to do with an unconscious athlete?
Conduct primary survey and dial 911.
CAB acronym?
- Circulation
- Airway
- Breathing
Hemorrhage?
Abnormal external or internal discharge of blood.
How to control external bleeding?
- Direct Pressure
- Elevation
- Pressure Points
Symptoms and Signs of Shock?
- Low BP
- Rapid, weak pulse
- Drowsiness and sluggishness
- Rapid, shallow breathing
- Pale, cool, clammy skin
Vital signs?
Heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, temperature, skin color, pupils of the eye, movement, presence of pain, and level of consciousness.
HOPS for evaluating injuries?
History, observation, palpation (physical examination), special tests.
POLICE for treatment of injuries?
Protection, optimal loading, ice, compression, elevation.
Two keys of splinting?
- Splint one joint above and one joint below the fracture
