Genes, brain chemistry, childhood abuse, and chronic stress

What are the symptoms of major depression
Loss of interest, lack of energy, feeling helpless, and constant thoughts of death.
What is bipolar disorder?
Mood swings that take individuals from manic states of feeling energetic to depressive states.
List the characteristics of bipolar disorder.
Bipolar disorder includes mood swings, changes in thinking, behavior, and physical condition.
What is a phobia?
An anxiety disorder masked by an inordinate fear of an object, class of objects, or a situation, resulting in extreme avoidance behaviors.
What is a panic attack?
Short episode characterized by sensations of lightheadedness, dizziness, hyperventilation, numbness of extremities accompanied by an inexplicable terror.
Define OCD.
Disorder characterized by obsessions and/or compulsions that impair one’s ability to function.
Define obsession.
A recurring thought, idea, or image.
Define compulsion.
Repetitive behavior that is performed according to certain rules.

ADHD or ADD, which is difficulties in controlling motion and sustaining attention, which can cause academic difficulties, poor concentration, and difficulty making decisions.

The most devastating mental disorder is schizophrenia.
What causes schizophrenia?
It is caused by failure in brain development early in life and genetics
What are the symptoms of schizophrenia?
Hallucinations, delusions, and inability to think in a logical manner.
What factors lead to suicide?
Mental Disorders, substance abuse, hopelessness, access to guns, and a life crisis.
