What is meant by binge eating?

What is anorexia nervosa?
A psychological disorder in which refusal to eat and/or an extreme loss of appetite
How do anorexics see themselves?
See themselves as fat even when they are not.
What are some characteristics of anorexia nervosa?
<85% of normal body weight
Intense fear of gaining weight or getting fat
Distorted body image
Loss of 3 menstrual cycles in a row
What are the medical complications from having anorexia nervosa?
Increased sensitivity to cold
Growth of fine like baby hair over body
Osteoporosis
Sudden death
What is bulimia nervosa?
Episodic binge eating, often followed by forced vomiting or laxative abuse
What are the warning signs of bulimia nervosa?
Repeated binge eating
Lack of control over eating
2 binges a week for at least 3 months
