For what reason is the mob coming towards the house?
they’re there to kill the Jews because a little boy told a lie that they hurt his friends and him. He says they cut his friends’ throats which is completely untrue.

they’re going to pretend to be refugees from Greece and will be given fake papers, only allowed to speak Hebrew because the guards can’t tell the difference between Hebrew and greek. They were given packs of cigarettes to use as bribes.
Why would they be all right once they crossed the border?
they have to be careful because the Polish side of the border is dangerous because they could be shot, but once they cross the border, there will be people to help them.
Why would it be better to sneak across the border?
it would be safer to sneak across and avoid the guards.
Why does Leah think that Ruth is a good companion?
she doesn’t cry and she reminds her of herself.
Where did Leah spend most of the war? How did she survive?
Leah spent most of the war in the forest. She survived by eating mushrooms, and roots and stealing potatoes from farms and at night.
How had three of the other children survived?
The first young girl survived by standing in a river, the second young boy spent his time hiding in a small space in a barn for years and the third ran from town to town for a long time.
What happens to Nate?
Nate bribes the guards but he gets arrested and tied to a chair.
