What is a fragment?
A
A piece of a sentence
Often begin with the relative pronoun “which” or the subordinating conjunctions “because and whereas”

What makes a fragment not a sentence?
A
- The subject is missing
- The verb is missing
- Both the subject and verb are missing
- The words are a DC therefore a subject, verb, and incomplete thought

How do you correct a fragment?
A
- Add the missing part/parts to develop the fragment into a complete sentence
- Join the fragment to another sentence

What is a phrase?
A
A group of words that go together but lack one or more of the elements necessary to be classified as a sentence

A
Words that look like verbs but that function as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs

How to form a sentence that contains a participle?
A
- Add a helping vebr to the participle
- Change the participle to a different form of the verb
- Use the participle as an adjective, being sure to provide a subject and verb for the sentence
- Use a gerund phrase as a subject
