What is a convergent boundary?
When plates move towards each other, forming an island arc
What is a divergent boundary?
When the plates are moving apart in opposite directions
What is a hot spot?
Hot material under the earths surface
What is viscosity?
How slowly a liquid moves
The higher the temp. the more less the viscosity
What is a magma chamber?
Where the magma is stored in the volcano
What is the pipe?
The tube where the magma travels up to come out
What is the vent?
The place where the magma comes out
What is the lava flow?
The flowing of the lava on the outside of the volcano
What is a crater?
A hole in the ground formed by falling rock from a volcano
What is a dormant volcano?
A volcano that is not active at the moment but will be in the future
What is an extinct volcano?
A volcano that will not erupt again
What is an active volcano?
A volcano that is erupting right now
What is a shield volcano?
A volcano that is very short, has a quiet eruption
What is a cinder cone volcano?
A volcano that is shaped like a cone and has an explosive eruption
What is a composite volcano?
A pointy volcano that can have an explosive or quiet eruption
What is a caldera?
A volcano that exploded and left a hole in its place
What is a volcanic neck?
A jagged form left from an eruption
What is a dike?
A crack I’m the ground left from eruption
What is a sill?
Jagged forms in a wall left from eruption
What is a batholith?
A round, smooth surface left from eruption
What is a geyser?
A spout with hit water pouring out of it as a result of geothermal activity
