gonorrhea
mostly affects ages 15-19 in US
non-gonoccaal infection due to
Chlamydia infections
Chlamydia causes
adults are asymptomatic. it can cause ophthalmia neonatorum in children which destroys their vision.
syphilis (treponema pallidum) 5 stages
primary syphilis- begins after 10-90 day incubation and forms chancre
secondary- low grade fever, malaise, sore throat, headache, rash, ect
latent- blood test + but no symptoms
late- affects CNS and cardiovascular systems
lymphogranuloma venereum is caused by
closely related strains of chlamydia. more common in tropics.
lymphogranuloma venereum manifestations
genital ulcer followed by regional lymphadenopathy which becomes massive and ulcerates into fistula.
