Chapter 9 Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is a theoretical yield?
The maximum amount of product that can be produced from a given
amount of reactant.
What is the actual yield?
measured amount of product obtained from a reaction.
What is the percentage yield?
the ratio of the actual yield to the theoretical yield, multiplied by 100.
How to find the limiting reactant?
- Converting the mole by mole conversion factor.
- The smallest amount compared to the present is the limiting reagent.
What is limiting reactant?
a reactant that limits the amounts of the other reactants that can combine and the amount of product that can form.
What is excess reactant?
The substance that is not used up completely in a reaction.
How can you find molar mass of a compound?
-Determine the number of each element in the compound.
-Multiply atomic weight by the number of atoms.
-Add contributions for total molar mass.
What is molar mass?
the conversion factor that relates the mass of a substance to the amount in moles of that substance.
To solve reaction stoichiometry problems , you will need to determine
_____________ using the periodic table.
Molar mass.
What is Stoichiometry?
Measuring chemicals that go into, and
come out of any reaction.
What is composition Stoichiometry?
deals with the mass relationships of elements in compounds.
What is reaction Stoichiometry?
Involves the mass relationships between reactants and products in a chemical reaction.
