Describe the conditions on a slave ship.

Describe the process of selling slaves.

A
  • Before the slaves were sold, they were cleaned up, washed with water, and forced to rub oil over into their skin to make them look shiner and healthier.
  • They were then sold through auctions or scrambles.

> Auctions: Buyers would bid on individual slaves.
Scrambles: Buyers would pay a fixed price and rushed to get the slaves they wanted.

What did the buyers do with the slaves after the sale?

A

After they were bought, slaves became property of the buyer. They were given European names and were then branded with the owner’s intitals on their face, back or chest. After they were branded, they were made tow rok.
