Rebuilding with the structure of the communist economy in the USSR. It was an attempt by Gorbachev to modernize the USSR. With perestroika was glasnost which brought more transparency and democratization to the country.

A
A “thawing” in the cold war. Started in 1969 when tensions between the US and the USSR simmered.

A
When two countries come together to ease tension. In 1970, this occurred between the US and China.
