Current performance capabilities
Standard that reflects an athletes average current performance level
Goal commitment
The level of motivation athletes possess to reach a goal.
Goal evaluation
Proceeds of checking goal attainment by comparing performance to the original goal.
Goal setting
Process of establishing a standard of accomplishment.
Long term objective
More a quest for improvement than a standard, long term objectives help athletes progress systematically along a performance continuum toward a desired accomplishment.

Goals that are slightly beyond athletes current performance capabilities.
Objective performance measure
Type of performance standard that is quantifiable and easily counted.
Outcome goals
Goals that emphasize outperforming other competitors and attaining valued outcomes such as winning or placing high.
Performance goals
Goals that focus on improving overall performance.
Process goals
Goals that enhance form, technique, and strategy.
Short term goals
Specific target behavior to e achieved within a period of six weeks.
Social loafing
Performance problem that plagues teams in which individuals working together on a task tend to exert less individual effort and perform at a lower level than when they perform the task alone.
Subjective performance measure
Standard for assessing performance of tasks or skills in which performance is not easily quantified.
Action plan
Detailed plan that identifies the specific steps and strategies to be used in attempting to overcome obstacles and achieve a goal.
