1
Q

A

Voltage produced depends on the type of electrodes electrolyte used. The greater the difference in reactivity between metals, the greater the voltage.

Q

Fuel cells

A

2H2 + O2 —> 2H2O (oxidation of hydrogen produces a voltage)

-O2 gas is supplied to the anode and gains electrons to form OH- (O2 + 2H2O + 4e- —> 4OH-)
-H2 gas is supplied to the cathode and reacts with OH- to form water (2H2 + 4OH- —> 4H2O + 4e-)

Q

Hydrogen as a fuel

A

-only waste product is water
-don’t need to use electricity to recharge
-flammable
-hard to compress
-sometimes produced from fossil fuels
