Chp 5 Flashcards
(47 cards)
Species with two types of dentition are called
diphyodont
Differentiation of the teeth takes place in which stage
bell stage
teeth develop from these cells
ectodermal cells and mesenchymal cells and neural crest cells
what cells form the enamel organ
ectodermal cells
what cells form dental papilla
mesenchymal
what does dentin form from
dental papilla and mesenchymal cells
Name the stages of tooth development in order (Fig 5.1)
- Bud
- Cap
- Bell
- Dentinogenesis
- Amelogenesis
- Crown formation
- Root formation and eruption
- Function
ECTODERMAL cells form what
ENAMEL ORGAN → ENAMEL
MESENCYMAL cells form
DENTAL PAPILLA → DENTIN AND PULP
What is the 1st sign of tooth formation
Proliferation of ectodermal cells development of dental lamina
Dental Lamina is a
sheet of epithelial cells
BUD
Bud looks like a round localized shape of ectodermal cells surrounded by mesenchymal cells.
1st stage when ectodermal and mesenchymal start to interact
CAP
The cells enlarges
Differentiation occurs. The ectodermal becomes the enamel organ and the mesenchyme forms the dental papilla.
Dental follicle
BELL
The enamel organ and the papilla start to morphodifferentiation (structure changes) and histodifferentiation (histology cells changes)
What changes happen in the bell stage
The enamel organ has split and formed the outer enamel epithelia cells and inner epithelial cells.
Layer develop in between
The dental papilla becomes odontoblasts. Theses odontoblast cells produce dentin.
(the rest of the papilla will turn into the tooths pulp)
What cells bring nutrients to ameloblast
Outer enamel epithelium
Cells that assist in ameloblast formation
Stratum intermedium
What cells develop ameloblasts
Inner epithelial cells
Layers that have developed in the enamel organ
Outer enamel epithelium
Stellate reticulum
Stratum intermedium
Inner epithelial cells
This is the process of developing the dentin in the tooth.
DENTINOGENESIS
Dentinogenesis
The odontoblast processes (a process is an elongated cell) move down into the pulp area up to the DEJ
Odontoblast starts to form a matrix of collagen fibers and processes secretes proteins. This matrix is called Pre-dentin. It starts to calcify in 24 hrs called DENTIN.
When the ameloblasts are secreting, there are short conical processes that develop called
Tomes process
Formation of the enamel stage takes place during
Amelogenesis
The inner epithelium cells elongate and become ameloblasts that secrete thru the 5 stages takes place during what stage
Amelogenesis
