Q

Why are massed practice and rereading ineffective learning methods?

A

Mass practice/cramming and rereading are the most common and popular methods but at the same time they’re the most ineffective.
Cramming before a test might get us good results but there¨s no real mastery and we’ll soon forget what we’ve “learned”.
Perfect memorisation doesn’t equal mastery of the subject.

Q

How does retrieval practice enhance learning and what are the benefits

A

Recalling from memory is more effective than rereading.
Flash cards and quizes force the brain to think and look for the information it has already stored and work with it actively.
Spacing out between sessions allows the studied material to settle and helps storing it in long-term memory when we study it again.
