Active Transport Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What proteins does active transport use?
A
Carrier proteins spanning the cell membrane
2
Q
Why does that molecule that is being actively transported bind to?
A
A receptor complementary in shape on the protein
3
Q
Step 3 of active transport- ATP bind?
A
ATP binds to the carrier protein from the inside of the cell and it is hydrolysed into ADP and Pi
4
Q
4th step of active transport? (Phosphate group being attached)
A
The carrier protein changes shape and releases the molecule to the other side
5
Q
5th step of active transport? (Phosphate ion being released)
A
Phosphate ion is then released and the protein returns to its original shape
