Tissue Fluid Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is tissue fluid?
The watery liquid that contains glucose, amino acids, fatty acids, ions and oxygen
1st step- hydrostatic pressure?
The hydrostatic pressure is higher at the arterial end
2nd step- what does this hydrostatic pressure do?
Forces fluid out of the capillary
What is the water potential like at the arterial end?
Lower than the tissue fluid and the hydrostatic pressure of the tissue fluid
How is fluid forced out of the capillary?
By ultrafiltration
Return: what happens at the venous end?
The hydrostatic pressure falls
What does formation of the tissue fluid do to the water potential?
Reduces the water potential of the blood slightly because the plasma proteins cant cross the basement membrane- the volume of water has decreased
What does fluid do into the capillary: return?
Moves into the capillary but around 10% drains into the lymphatic system
