Short Term Memory (STM)
A working memory
If sensory information is recognised or important, it’s “coded” and sent to this
Limited capacity, Only lasts around 12 seconds
Long Term Memory (LTM)
If a STM is rehearsed or attended to in some way it’s recorded and transferred into this
Unlimited capacity that can last forever
What is Semantic Memory
A type of memory compromised of the factual knowledge one has (this is generally what people tend to think of when they think of “memory”)
What is Episodic Memory
A type of memory which is autobiographical
Memories of events or experiences
Procedural Memory
A type of memory which relates to how one does something and the habits one has
Explicit Memory
A principle of memory; expressed through recollection
Retrograde Amnesia
The inability to recall events
Implicit Memory
A principle of memory; expressed through performance
Anteograde Amnesia
The inability to remember later events
