What are the priveleges of an ATCO licence?
Holders of an ATC licence shall be authorised to provide ATC services in accordance with the ratings and endoresements in their licence.
What three reasons may lead to action with regard to an ATCO’s licence or ratings?
- Deficiency in, or doubts about, competence to provide and ATC service
- Doubts about whether an individual is a fit person to hold a licence, in relation to their character or behaviour, including their integrity, reliability and self-control
- Inability to meet the appropriate medical standards
What details must appear on a licence?
- Name of state of issue
- Title of licence
- serial no. of the licence
- Name, date of birth, nationality and signature of holder
- Competent authority
- Certification of validity plus dates of first issue
- Signature of issuing officer and date
- Seal or stamp of competent authority.
Must be accompanied by a valid medical certificate.
What must you do if your licence is revoked?
Send it to the competent authority, CAA
What EU regulations require states to have formal means for reporting and assessment of safety occurences?
EU reg 996/2010
EU reg 376/2014
Within what period must a report be filed?
Within 72 hours of the occurence.
What is the role of the Safety Investigation branch?
To improve aviation safety by determining the causes of air accidents and serious incidents and making safety recommendations intended to prevent recurrence. It is not to apportion blame or liability.
What is a just culture?
One that does not apportion blame, this does not protect you from the consequences of a deliberate action though.
Who’s responsibility is it to keep up to date with changes to documents or the regulations?

Define an aerodrome
A defined area (including any buildings, installations and equipment) on land or water or on a fixed, offshore or floating structure intended to be used either wholly or in part for the arrival, departure and surface movement of aircraft
What is an ATZ?
Airspace of defined dimensions established around an aerodrome for the protection of aerodrome traffic.
2nm radius where runway length is less than 1850m otherwise 2.5nm

Gliders may enter in VMC

Define a CTR
Control Zone, Controlled airspace which has been further notified as a control zone and which extends from the surface. No standard dimensions.
Define CTA
Controlled airspace which has been further notified as a control area and which extends upwards from a notified altitude or flight level.
Minimum 700ft AGL base.
Define an Airway
A control area or portion thereof established in the form of a corridor. 10 miles wide
We’ve been told its 5 miles high too so learn that.
Define an ATS route
An ATS route is a designated route for channeling the flow of traffic as necessary for the provision of air traffic services.
What is a TMZ
A Transponder Mandatory Zone is airspace of defined dimensions wherein the carriage and operation of pressure altitude reporting transponders is mandatory.
What is an RMZ?
A Radio Mandatory Zone is airspace of defined dimensions wherein the carriage and operation of suitable/appropriate radio equipment is Mandatory.
