Competition and adaption Flashcards
(15 cards)
What do you need in order to survive?
Food
Water
Oxygen
Minerals
Heat
Light
What do we call the things we need to survive?
Resource.
Plants need this resource in order to carry out photosynthesis.
Light.
Animals need this resource for energy and growth.
Food
This resource is needed for chemical reactions in plants and animals
Water
This resource is needed to break down food for energy during respiration
Oxygen
Plants need this resource during photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide
This resource is needed for chemical reactions in all organisms
Minerals
What are the two different types of competitions?
- Intraspecific
- Interspecific
Explain Intraspecific competition
Competition between individuals of the same species.
Explain Interspecific competition
Competition between individuals from different species
What is adaptation?
the characteristics or behaviours living organisms have developed that enable them to survive in their environment.
What are the two different types of adaptation?
- Morphological (physical)
- Behavioural
What is the definition of morphological adaption?
It’s how an organism changes its physical appearance. For example, camouflage or spikes on a cactus.
What is the definition of behavioural adaptation?
It’s how their behaviour changes in different environments. For example hunting at night.
