Connective Tissue Flashcards
(21 cards)
What are the 3 aspects of connective tissue?
- cells
- fibers
- ground substance
What are the 3 fibers?
collagen, elastic, reticular
Fibroplast
-secrete proteins to make collagen
-elastic & reticular
Adipocytes
-contains fat (triglycerides)
Macrophages
-to engulf (phagocytosis) foreign bodies (bacteria)
Mast cells
-secrete heparin to prevent blood clots
-secrete histamine to indicate allergy
White blood cells
-help to fight off infection/immune response and defense
Stem cells
-to become whatever cell your body needs (morph)
Reticular
-to support cells by a scaffold
Elastic
-made up of protein called elastin , provided for stretch ability
Collagen
-made up of collagen fibers
-great tensile strength (pull without tear)
Arreolar
-loose tissue
-consists of collagen fibers, elastic fibers, and fibroblasts
-found in most areas of the body
-breast tissue
-lies underneath epithelial
-around organs
Adipose
-loose tissue
-filled with fat (triglycerides)
-found in kidneys as padding
-stomach, eyeballs, heart, cushion for joints
Reticular
-loose tissue
-made up of reticular fibers (made of collagen)
-provides framework to hold organs together in place
-liver and spleen
Hyaline Cartilage
-dense tissue
-made up of chondrocytes
-lacuna (space surrounding a cell)
-fetal skeleton, in joints at end of long bones, soft part of the nose
Fibrocartillage
-dense tissue
-made up of collagen fibers
-provides a long framework for organ its in
-example: vertebral disc acts as a cushion
Blood
-dense tissue
-liquid connective tissue
-transports oxygen and nutrients throughout the body VIA hemoglobin
-consisting of white blood , red blood cells, plasma, platelets, cryoprecipiate (factor 8)
-blood type info
-AB is a universal donor, can receive any type, rare, A, B, O
-O can give to anyone but only receive O
Bone
-can be compact or spongy
-osteocyte (bone + cell)
-osteons (compact bone)
-osteoporosis (cant absorb Ca well)
Elastic
-chondrocytes interspersed among elastic fibers
-seen in the external part of ear
-in epiglottis
-provides stretchability
List cartilage in order of thickness (thick to thin)
- collagen
- elastic
- reticular
The extracellular matrix of connective tissue contains:
cells and fibers
