1
Q

name five pieces of evidence in the continental drift theory

A
  • puzzle piece
  • fossils
  • mountain ranges
  • ice sheets
  • age of the oceanic crust
2
Q

what is puzzle piece?

A

the shape of the continents fit together like a puzzle piece

3
Q

what is fossil?

A

fossils of the same creatures were found on two continents that are very far from each other

4
Q

what is mountain range?

A

mountain ranges, which seem to be the same age and type of rock, are broken by the ocean which otherwise would fit together

5
Q

what is ice sheet?

A

ice sheets developed in areas that are tropical today and too warm for snow and ice
this suggests that the plates have moved apart and farther south

6
Q

what is age of the oceanic crust?

A

as you move away from the plate boundaries, the age of the crust is older

7
Q

what is divergent plate movement?

A

two plates move apart from each other

can cause volcanic activity

8
Q

what is convergent plate movement?

A

two plates push against each other

can cause volcanic activity

9
Q

what is transform plate movement?

A

two plates slide past each other
