Coordination Flashcards
(10 cards)
Define coordination
The organisation of different elements of a complex body or activity so as to enable them to work together effectively
Involve bringing together the degree of freedom at each level into proper relations
Explain anticipatory postural adjustments
Leg muscles first to brace yourself
Explain anticipatory muscle activation
Proximal to distal
Closest to the centre of the body not to the stimulus
Stabilising
When pushing down on the table, proximal distal disappears as joints were already stabilised
Loose posture adjustments (when arm already in table)
Explain single joint movements
Picture
At maximum velocity, acceleration drops to 0 then see negative acceleration
Explain triphasic movement patterns
Agonist
Antagonist to slow it down
Combination of the two
How does triphasic activity change in different situations
Lots of agonist
Less antagonist
Less need so slow down
Explain muscle models
Determine release windows
Vary when muscles switch on
Very small release windows
Timing
What is bimanual coordination
Bimanual coordination means using both hands together in a smooth and controlled way.
Link fitts law
Picking up an item which is further away has a greater index of difficulty
Have to move further = greater movement time
Picking up 2 pens at same time = greater ID
Slow down
= interference
Explain trajectory’s and bimanual coordination
Both hands usually peak in height at same time then pick up the pens
