Limits Of Performance Flashcards
(12 cards)
What limits human performance
Strength/effort
Timing
Coordination
Define skill
The ability to bring about some end result with maximum certainty and minimum outlay of energy
What strategies do we use in sport
Minimise effort (if sub max)
Minimise jerk (joint movement should be smooth with smooth angular velocity/acceleration)
Maximise performance measures e.g speed
Maximise likelihood of success
Explain simulation models
Has rigid and wobbling sections
Torque generators (muscles)
- recreate force at joint centres
VE foot ground interface
What is the relationship between velocity, strength + distance
30% increases in both = 30% in distance
Must increase both for maximum benefit
What can be said about minimising effort
Sometimes strength can be a limiting factor and in sport minimising effort is not always the underlying strategy
Explain timing as a limiting factor in gymnastics
Small margin for error
Need sufficient angular momentum and appropriate flight conditions
Where may release windows apply
- What is the release window, what defines the start and end
- What are the consequences if you release too early/late
Maybe hammer throw?
Explain tangent release
Picture
What is the ben fit of the scooped technique
Flattens the path of the massed centre giving a greater margin for error when releasing the bar
What defines success
Athlete must operate
Within strength, anatomical/flexibility limits
Within a noisy environment
And satisfy the biomechanical requirements
- angular/linear momentum
- flight time
How do we cope with noise
To obtain practical solutions, the noise resulting from the human motor system must be incorporated into optimisations
Must look at all constraints acting on a motor system
