Coordination And Response Flashcards
(21 cards)
To increase the chance of an animals survival they must respond to two different types of environment, what are these?
Internal.
External.
What does CNS stand for ? ( CLUE : talking about the brain.)
Central Nervous System.
What are the three types of neurone?
Sensory.
Relay.
Motor.
Any change in the internal or external environment is called a?
Stimulus.
Label the stages of a reflex arc? (CLUE : for example what happens in someone touches a pin and hurts themselves.)
Stimulus. Receptor. Sensory neurone. Relay neurone. Motor neurone. Effector. Response. (Has to be in order.)
In the eye what part controls the diameter of the pupil and how much light gets in the eye?
The iris.
What does the optic nerve do?
Carries impulses from the receptors to the brain.
What does the conjunctiva do?
Lubricates and protects the surface of the eye.
Where is adrenaline produced?
Adrenal glands.
Where is insulin produced?
Pancreas.
Where is progesterone produced?
Ovaries.
Where is oestrogen produced?
Ovaries.
What does the adrenaline hormone do?
Readies the body for the “fight or flight” response.
What does insulin do?
Helps control blood sugar level.
How does progesterone effect the body?
Maintains lining of uterus.
What effect does oestrogen have on the body.
Controls the periods and promotes female secondary sexual characteristics, e.g BOOBIES and widening of the hips.
What is homeostasis?
It is the maintenance of a consistent internal environment.
What is average body temperature ?
37’C
Where is testosterone produced?
Testes.
What effect does testosterone have on the body?
Promotes make secondary sexual characteristics, e.g. facial hair.
Plants sense the direction of light linking to photosynthesis, so what does the plant do to survive?
The plant will grow towards the light to maximise light absorption for onto photosynthesis.
