Correlation Involving Stroop Test Flashcards
(23 cards)
What are the 2 Co variables
Correlation involving Stroop test
Creativity scores on the Kellogg creativity questionnaire out of 116
The Stroop test - time taken to accurately complete
Possible confounding variables?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Visual impairments
Size of screen
Prior experience
How much sleep they had
Possible extraneous variables
Correlation involving Stroop test
Noise
Temperature
Light
Which type of hypothesis are you going to write and why?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Directional (one tailed) as previous research has been done
Alternative hypothesis
Correlation involving Stroop test
There will be an increase in Stroop test times in seconds in those who have a creativity score ( Kellogg ) under 50, then those who scored over 50
Null hypothesis
Correlation involving Stroop test
There will be no significant difference in Stroop test times depending on high or low creativity scores ( Kellogg )
Who makes up the target population?
Correlation involving Stroop test
People at ND
Who is our sampling frame?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Those who are accessible
Students and staff
What sampling used anime why?
Opportunity sampling; choosing who is willing and at convenience/availability as it is easier for the research than other methods such as stratified which takes more time as all participants must be organised into categories
What experimental design and why?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Independent groups
Can only belong to one age condition
How will you consider privacy in your research?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Not sharing scores
Code names
How will you consider confidentiality in your research?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Keep results in a safe space
How will you consider deception in your research?
Correlation involving Stroop test
No deception in this study
Participants are fully briefed before consent is given
How will you consider right to withdraw in your research?
Correlation involving Stroop testi
Debrief
Let them leave if they don’t want to participate anymore
How will you consider informed consent in your research?
Correlation involving Stroop test
16+ can consent for themselves
Under 16 = responsible adult e.g. teacher
How will you consider protection from harm in your research?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Add links in to debrief to researchers email
Add self help links
How will you ensure internal reliability is high?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Each P has the same instructions given in the same way
Every researcher uses electronic devices for stroop test & questionnaires
Could you check for external reliability? How?
Yes
Doing it again a week later and seeing if we get got same results as reliability is consistency over time
What may be an issue of validity in your research?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Demand characteristics: may want to appeal to the research
Social desirability bias: the P’s may think it is better to appear more creative
Which graphical representation would be the most appropriate for your data? Justify your answer
Correlation involving Stroop test
Scatter graph because we’re looking for a correlation
2 ways to improve your research
Correlation involving Stroop test
Demand characteristics: social desirability bias
> creativity may be exaggerated as the P may want to score highly on the test
> have the P do the test by themself, not around other people so they feel less pressure and don’t compare
> makes the data more valid
Confounding variables
> were not controlled
> in reference to students subjects, we should’ve used P’s that do a specific humanity and a specific STEM subject so we could further represent validity
How did you deal with reliability?
Correlation involving Stroop test
All of the Ps were given the exact same brief, consent form and debrief in the same manner that they read them
All Ps completed the tests on an electronic device
Standardised procedures - eliminates researcher bias and differentiation in results due to external factors
How did you deal with validity?
Correlation involving Stroop test
Limiting researcher bias - opportunity sampling , because it involves selecting participants who are readily available, reducing the researcher’s ability to handpick individuals based on specific characteristics or preferences
Limiting demand characteristics- told Ps aim but not hypothesis or direction to prevent “please you” or “screw you” effects
