Counterstrain and FPR Flashcards
(62 cards)
What type of technique is Counterstrain?
Passive, indirect
Describe Counterstrain points?
small, tense edematous area of tenderness the size of a finger tip located near the bony attachments of tendons or ligaments and are tender only over the point without radiation
What do Sensory afferents (group 1a) fibers do?
Send branches to intrafusal fibers in the muscle spindle : sense stretch
What do Motor efferents (Gamma) fibers do?
In muscle spindle
-Gamma 1 dynamic fibers; rate of change
-Gamma 2 static: Degree of stretch
General Counterstrain procedure?
ID Tenderpoint
Place in optimal comfort: at least 70% reduction
-generally Ant points = flexion
-generally Post points = Extension
Maintain position for 90 seconds
Slowly return to neutral position
Reassess
