Who is a victim of crime?
A
Any person that has suffered physical, mental or emotional harm, or their property is stolen or damaged due to a criminal act committed.
If the person dies as a result of the act committed, a member of the immediate family is also a victim of crime.

What is the difference between primary and secondary victim of crimes?
A
Primary - The person who is at harm or dies is the primary.
Secondary- if the person dies the family become the secondary.

Q
What are the NSWPF responsibilities and minimum standards of service and care to victims of crime and victim follow up?
A
- Police will explain how they will deal with the matter
- Police will provide a victim card with the contact details of the officer in charge, time/date of report and COPS event number
- Police will provide you with information about support services
- Police will encourage you to contact them if you need or have and further information
- Police will keep you informed throughout the investigation unless information puts the investigation in jeopardy
- Police will consider any concerns about your safety and protection in any attempts for bail
- Police will give you information about being a witness, how the court works and what you have to do
- Police will tell you about your right to make a Victim Impact Statement if you want to tell the court how the crime has affected you
- Police will look after your property that is needed as evidence and keep it safe and secure. When they are able to return it they will do so ASAP.
Victim follow up: 7 days then 28 days
