What is CPD and why is it important?
Allows employees to seek additional beneficial skills and training through various activities or programs, benefiting both the employer and employee.
It is important regarding remaining relevantly informed of changes within the industry and further developing skills and knowledge.
State 2 benefits of CPD for the employee and 2 for the employer.
Increases career opportunities
Increased job satisfaction
Staff retention
Well-trained staff
Why is having certified employees beneficial to a business?
Helps the business to gain a competitive advantage over those with less qualified staff, providing evidence of skilled and well trained employees; other organisations or individuals would be more inclined to interact and collaborate with these businesses.
State 4 types of CPD and briefly explain what they entail.
Coaching and mentoring - employee is assigned a more experienced mentor to offer guidance on-the-job.
Independent research- researching professional publications, websites and videos regarding a specific role to gain more knowledge.
Appraisals - routine progress and performance reviews, suggesting potential additional training that could be provided.
What is a corporate social responsibility plan and how does this relate to CPD?
Business model which companies adopt to make an effort to operate in ways that enhance society and the environment. Those companies with CSR plans are more inclined to allow employees to engage in non-work related personal development if it benefits society (e.g. charitable volunteering)
